Dear Friends: As some of you (unfortunately) know, there have been
serious problems with garbage and recycling pickup in certain ward one
blocks. I have been pressing DPW Director Howland to fix this
intolerable situation. I am now sending his response. Hopefully the
missed pickups will become a thing of the past. I am about to go on
vacation, and my staff will be closely monitoring this situation. Bests
CM Jim Graham
I typically answer emails before 9 AM on weekdays. If you email me after
that, it is likely that you will hear from me the next weekday. If there
is a need to communicate prior to that, you may wish to call me.

As you and your constituents are well aware, we have been having some
difficulty with trash and recycling collections. The primary trash
collection problems have been identified with route 108 that is bounded
by the streets of Spring Rd (north), Columbia Rd (south), 14th St (west)
and 10th St (east). We have assigned a new driver and crew to that
route effective immediately and their first day of collection will be
this Friday. The crew will do a dry run of the route tomorrow
(Thursday) in preparation for Friday.
We are also working with the supervisor. A senior manager will be
assisting the supervisor over the next couple of weeks. We will also be
evaluating the supervisor to determine if a change is needed there.
Finally, DPW is developing a "hot list" for Crew Chiefs and Foremen's to
check each day. The "hot list" consists of the complaints received
from CM Graham's Office and 727.1000 of missed service. The Crew
Chiefs and Foremen's will check up on these residences on the same day
of the scheduled pick up to ensure the collections took place.
Thanks
Bill
