Dear Friends:

Good news: Working together, the Adams Morgan businesses and real estate
owners have assembled more than the required 51% of the property owners
as petitioners for the creation of a Business Improvement District, or
BID as it is called. I have already introduced and the Council has
approved emergency and temporary legislation to create the BID. A
permanent bill has also been introduced.

As with other BIDS, this BID will mean a substantial improvement in both
cleanliness and safety in this neighborhood. Everyone knows the
difference that BIDs have achieved downtown, Georgetown and Capitol
Hill.

It is a major step forward that enough property owners have agreed to
provide an assessment to fund this BID.

The next step (which will be taken very soon) is to submit the BID
application to the Mayor for approval.

The Mayor then has a limited number of weeks to respond.

WE could have this BID in place in Adams Morgan this year.

I am very grateful to everyone who has made this possible. Josh Gibson
is continuing his fine efforts as the BID director.

We need to replicate this effort in other areas of the Ward as well.
