Dear Friends, Join us to discover part of story of the history of slavery in Adams Morgan and Kalorama. Working with 19th century maps and records, we will reconstruct the location of John and Margaret Little’s plantation mansion. Discover artifacts from the ruins of this abandoned historical site. Artist/historian, Mary Belcher will share her latest research, on the escape of one of the Little's enslaved women, who, during the Civil War, sought freedom at nearby military base, disguised as a male Union Soldier, only to be discovered and returned into slavery..
Continue on to the Walter Pierce Park where we will hear about efforts, by biological anthropologist Mark Mack and his team from Howard University to recover the history of an almost forgotten African American cemetery. Then learn the histoy of the Holt House, Adams Mill and the early quarries along Rock Creek. After the tour join us at nearby restaurant, for good food, strong Coffee and great conversation.

Led by Eddie Becker eddie_becker_becker at yahoo.com and Mary Belcher maryjbelcher at comcast.net along with Mark Mack and presented Free as part of a series of tours sponsored by Cultural Tourism DC.
