Subject: Off Duty Police Stabbed, Solo's, 3566 14th/Arrest made

Dear Friends:

Sad news on this otherwise beautiful day. At about 11:15 PM last night,
an off duty police officer was critically wounded by stabbing at Solo's
Restaurant and Carry Out, 3566 14th Street NW.

The Officer was taken to MedStar, in critical condition, but MPD advises
me that he has been stabilized and recovery is anticipated.

There are good leads and, according to information from ABRA, one arrest
has been made. Another suspect is being sought.

The Officer was not working and was inside the restaurant having dinner,
when a fight broke out between two patrons. The Officer attempted to
intervene. Current information indicates that the actual stabbing
occurred outside the restaurant. These are preliminary details and will
need to be reviewed and confirmed.

Solo's alcohol restaurant license is up for renewal at this time. There
is a law in place considering action by the ABC Board when a police
officer is injured at an alcohol establishment. The Chief of Police also
may shut down the business for 96 hours, upon a certain finding.

This matter is to go before the ABC Board on Wednesday.

With prayers for the complete recovery of the officer, Councilmember Jim
Graham
