Hi Neighbors,

To piggy back on the ridiculous amount of waste generated at Adams
Morgan Day, its clear the event needs more than better waste
management. Numerous exhibitors had nothing to do with our
neighborhood. Why does Lowe's, a huge corporation need to be hawking
credit cards, pesticide, herbicide and other toxic garden chemicals in
our public space. Seriously, chemicals were the only products I saw in
there booth. I at first politely inquired to the five marketing guys in
the booth, who admittedly where not from DC, they felt they would find a
good market for these toxic chemicals in our neighborhood. Much of the
stuff was for lawns found in the burbs. Rather than talk these guys
swore at me and told me to "F-off," right in front of my 3 year old.

Folks, we live in the most densely populated neighborhood in the city.
Pouring these chemicals on our tiny green spaces is bad for everyone
because run off. They CAUSE CANCER. Using these chemicals essentially
exposes all of us. If you got weeds there are many natural options,
namely pulling them out and filling in cracks in the cement or even
better cultivating something in the same space.

What kind of message do the AM Day organizers want to send with major
recycling or use of disposable non-toxic or reusable items in the future
- I'd love to know. Nevertheless, it seems earth raping corporations
are free to participate in the public square. Should that be the case?
I don;t think so.

I spent less time at the festival this year for the bad taste is was
leaving my gut. Sale of pesticides and other toxic chemicals is not
very festive to me! There is more on why Pesticides are destroying our
environment at http://www.panna.org/

Sincerely,

Adam Eidinger

P.s - You don't have to leave our neighborhood to see the devastating
effects of herbicide, aka Round Up. Just visit the house at the North
side of the intersection of 19th an Belmont streets. This house which
has been under remodeling for at least three 3 years, had a stupid
contractor (or owner) who decided to kill all the weeds in the
relatively large front lawn with Round Up. They then covered the area
with would chips and planted a row of perhaps 7 large bushes on top of a
retaining wall. All the bushes died (they are still there all brown)
and no weeds or any plant will grow there. They died because the soil
in the entire front yard is horribly polluted with ROund Up.
Essentially there is a dead zone where nothing will grow. The new
owners, if the place ever sells, may have to truck out all the soil to
get things to grow there. ROund Up is agent orange. Its kills
everything, except crops and grass seed genetically modified to
withstand chemical.
