I contacted DDOT regarding why the new Circulator bus connecting
Woodley Park and Adams Morgan does not stop at Calvert and Biltmore
(the first stop on the Adams Morgan side is closer to Cliffbourne).
Below is the response I received that might be of interest to people
who live in the neighborhood. DDOT is tracking customer feedback and
they might consider adding this stop if enough people contact them. If
you think that adding a stop at Calvert and Biltmore would be an
improvement, please email ddot at dc.gov (and consider copying Aaron
Overman (aaron.overman at dc.gov) who provided the response below).
Thanks. Sharon Z.
From Aaron Overman of DC Government:
While we have received a limited number of
requests (17 for this route) for new stops since the service began on
March 29, 2009. Eleven of these recommended stops be added on Columbia
Road at Ontario Road, and we have plenty of anecdotal evidence from
drivers saying that people will walk up to the bus at this very busy
stop and knock on the door to be let on. Four requests were for a pair
of stops at 14th and Euclid. One recommended stops at 14th Street and S
Street. Yours is the first DDOT has received regarding a stop on the
east side of the Ellington Bridge at Biltmore.
Generally three to six months is enough time to gauge the level of
public satisfaction with a new bus route and collect enough feedback to
offer meaningful changes that will be useful to both existing and
potential customers. We have completed only two full months of
operational statistics (April and May). In mid to late July we will
complete June's report and have a three month baseline upon which to
measure the operational performance of the new route; and any changes to
be made will be finalized at that time.
DDOT intends to maintain a limited stop configuration for this route
because of the time savings generated by stopping less frequently; the
operational advantages limited stops provide by reducing the number of
buses needed for the route and associated cost savings; and the fact
that there are underlying bus services provided by Metrobus that serve
all local stops (90s lines, H lines, and 50s lines). However, we may
consider the limited addition of stops later this summer based on
customer feedback and operational needs.
