Subject: [Mintwood-place] Washington Post today: Congressional report prompts fear and anger ove r lead in D.C. water
I'm reposting this article about lead in DC water to remind us of an earlier
attle over lead water pipes on Mintwood; to remind us that WASA early on
laimed there were no lead pipes in spite of what we residents saw with our own
or decades, the city and WASA, continue to blame each other and now they can
lame the CDC.
nstead, I hope you have installed water filters of some kind. If you want to
xchange info on brands or methods of installing, please ask or post.
ongressional report prompts fear and anger over lead in D.C. water
Friday, May 21, 2010
ederal and local political leaders, D.C. parents and health advocates reacted
hursday with a mixture of anger and fear to news that a federal agency misled
hem about the harm that lead in the District's water had caused -- and might
till be causing.
The furor came as a House investigative subcommittee released a report showing
hat the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention knowingly used
lawed data when telling D.C. residents that their health hadn't been harmed by
pikes in lead in the drinking water in 2004. The investigation, the subject of
congressional hearing Thursday, also disclosed new cause for alarm: Internal
DC research shows that an effort to fix the lead problem since 2004 puts
esidents in 9,100 D.C. homes at much higher risk of lead poisoning.
