Dear Jose, You are a neighborhood elder, and we have known each
other for many years, and worked together or apart or against each other - on one
issue or another - yet - we have always remained neighbors and friends.  And I know if I disagree with you on this  - which I do - there will always be some other
issues to unify around.    
That said, I was disappointed with your recent e-mail post
because in implied physical intimidation and violence against Denis James, another
neighbor.   Here is what you said "if  I was the
husband of this sick old woman I'd have a word or two with you about
this."  Jose, I
attended the Kalorama Citizens Association hotel meeting and found Lisa to have
made a miraculous recovery from her near death experience.  She continues to be tireless and persistent as
ever in driving home all her points.   Her e-mail exchanges, with various folks, are strong and vigorous
especially those penned by Lamar C, or Lamar Cousins from her Kaliseal at aol.com
account which she says she uses to channel other community members, to weak or
afraid speak for themselves.  So I see no
need for any man to speak for her after all she already speaks for many - you did
say in your e-mail that she is physically a "sick old woman" implying unable to
press her point which if I correctly decode what you wrote, would mean that the
first word from the man is telling Denis  what not to do and the second word is
vernacular for the use of physical pain to reinforce the first word.  No need for that - it can only lead to
violence.  You are better then that.
Just to show you how vigorous Lisa is,  as I recall, she had already started what she
called chemo at about the same time as becoming an advocate for tobacco
interests by providing testimony opposing the District's ban on smoking in restaurants
and bars.  
She does not smoke, she wasn't doing it out of addiction, I
could understand addiction.  I started to
think that even if she is ill, it does not make her immune from criticism.

For me my issue with her was always to get a clear accounting
of all the Main Street's money which they raised Tax Free as a non profit using
the Adams Morgan communities name.  It
seemed to undermine the groups credibility not to have a transparent accounting
which raked in plenty of money from various sources including taxpayer ones and
not just  Adams Morgan Day.  And when I'd ask, she'd question why I'd
bother a sick old lady doing so much good for the community.
I was saddened to hear that she was near death, then confused
and a bit shocked when it turned out the message had come from her alternative
e-mail account  - Lamar C. - at the time

Here's where I want to leave it, quite a few years back, during
one of Lisa periodic bouts with her illness, her good friend, Chuck Brazie  told me that one of the first people to
express concern for Lisa's health was Denis James, despite being at odds with
her over many things, he showed compassion and concern - which I think
surprised Chuck.  I was surprised
too.  And I learned something from that -
we all may disagree over one thing or another or even over everything but we
still have to live and work together as neighbors.  So in the upcoming days, Jose, when we greet
each other in the street, we might chat about this and that and leave as always
neighbors and friends.  Your pal, Eddie

Make you feel good your little rant did it Denis? Cause I was really sickened by it. Think your pathetic diatribe was smug, self righteous and ugly. Part of your community duty is it?

I have no dog in this fight, but if  I was the husband of this sick old woman I'd have a word or two with you about this. Whatever this woman is or whatever she did you are by no means judge and jury. Is this how you show your love for this community?

You put forth your own, false take of what happened at the Kalorama Citizens
Association meeting under a false name designed to make it appear that someone
named Lamar Cousins knows all about these matters and is taking me to task.

And Lamar Cousins doesn't exist.

You live in a world of distortions and lies. I wonder if you can tell what is
real anymore, you spin such manipulative fairy tales.

You've been doing this for years, undermining principled positions taken by the
KCA and other organizations with your testimony on behalf of "Adams Morgan Main
Street" in front of the ABC Board to try to undermine the neighborhood
organization's unanimous request for an ABC moratorium, for instance.

This latest incident shows your lack
 of truthfulness. And it goes back a long,
long way. Since I first started being involved in public issues with KCA in
1999, it's been the same.

Additionally, in your Lamar Cousins alter-ego, you unfairly maligned Chris
Otten, who rightly pointed out yesterday that he was never a committee chair on
the ANC and thus was not responsible for public meeting notifications.

In the case in question, current ANC Chair Reynolds wasn't able to post timely
to the list-serve, as he explained later, due to a technical glitch. I asked him
"What's up with that?", and thus the meeting became noticed. Are you against the
public being notified of meetings on the Church Hotel because you are so closely
aligned with the developer?

And now to the Adams Morgan Main Street Group. There is no longer any city main
streets program. Many times, the question of your group's exclusive handling of
Adams Morgan Day, with the
 prohibitive fees you charge for use of the public
space (far higher than any other street festival) has been brought into
question. Now that the "President" of the Adams Morgan Main Street Group has
admitted on this list that she participates in impersonations and false actions
intended to undermine other community groups, isn't it time for the pretense to
end that AMMG is anything more than a platform from which you manipulate
unsuspecting business owners and good-hearted residential volunteers?

Chris and I had fun with him calling me Lamar at the ANC-PZT mtg tonight. YES, I own the screen name kaliseal. There are many residents in Adams Morgan who are FEARFUL to post on the listservs because of the vitriol, attacks, and general negativity. They asked me to post their opinions and feelings. One attended the last KCA meeting and was impressed by Wes Combs, but unhappy with the conduct of the meeting.  I will now tell them they need to sign up and post for themselves. This does not change the Facts stated in the posting.
