[Mintwood-place] UPDATE: Kalorama Community Garden LOTTERY March 3

Dear 2012 Kalorama Garden Neighbors:

*The Kalorama Garden held our public lottery Saturday, March 3, 2012.  The
Kalorama recreation center was packed with lottery registrants.  We had
almost 80 names in the hat with many people attending in person to see the
lottery!*

Special thanks to the Kalorama Recreation Center staff and DPR for helping
us hold this public lottery. We are proud to say that we did not use
electronic voting machines and we do have a paper trail.

*11 names were picked -- 5 plot winners and 6 alternates.*
They are being contacted and gardening will begin soon!!

* If you'd like to help -- in particular if you happen to be looking on
Craigslist and find free garden supplies which we/you can help retrieve
that would be super.  Contact us >>

*MORE GARDENS IN WARD ONE*

The large number of lottery entrants demonstrates the growing demand for
more garden space in Ward One. Please ask Councilmember Jim Graham and DPR
Director Jesus Aguirre to push for creating more Ward One gardens in our
public parks.  There is plenty of space available in various parks
throughout Ward One, including Kalorama, which can easily be turned into
raised bed gardens without requiring much funding, if any at all.
Community volunteers just need the OK to get the space and do it.  Send
them an email encouraging creating more gardens in our Ward.
