WEEKEND OF PROTEST!

Circle, then marching along Embassy Row to Dick Cheney's crib.

(big red turtle) at the demonstration.

SATURDAY - STOP GLOBAL AIDS - MOBILIZATION FOR GLOBAL JUSTICE

crisis and global justice, to feed into the giant Mobilization for
Global Justice protests taking place on Saturday, Sept. 28.

10 am or at the College Park Metro (at turnstyles) at 10:20 am,

CONGRESS IS STILL CRITICAL. Congress will vote this week or
next on a war resolution. Bush has demanded a blank check giving
him authority to do whatever he "determines to be appropriate"
without regard to the UN or the cost in dollars or in lives. A
coalition of progressive Members has introduced an alternative
resolution (H. CON. RES. 473) calling for the US to work through
the United Nations to ensure verification of Iraqi disarmament.

LOBBYING - Monday, Sept. 30 will be a day of citizen lobbying
coordinated by a coalition of peace groups including EPIC and
Peace Action... Join Peace Forum members in representing the
UMCP campus community to our elected whatevertheyares down on
the Hill - contact Kobi Snitz at 301-405-5091, snitz at math.umd.edu
or Mark Gubrud at 301-405-7581, gubrud at umd.edu

YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE AN EXPERT or even a smooth talker to do
lobbying. The most important message is that you care enough
to go down there and express your concern in person. IT DOES
HAVE AN IMPACT. Many Members of Congress are as worried about
the war as we are... but they need to know they will have the
support of constituents and end up on the right side of history
if they vote against the president and his war agenda.

CONTACT CONGRESS - TELL THEM WHERE YOU STAND!

NO Blank Check to Bush - NO War of Agression - Support the UN

If you've already contacted Congress, DO IT AGAIN.

IMPORTANT ITEMS IN THE NEWS

Iraq promises "unfettered" access for inspectors, removing Bush's
only substantive objection to their previous statements. In essence,
they are promising to open all doors all the time, just as demanded.

Gore blasts Bush policy. With no office to defend, the man who won
the 2000 election takes the heat for Democrats in stating the obvious.
http://www.nytimes.com/2002/09/24/politics/24GORE.html

Three recently retired 4-star generals told Congress that attacking
Iraq unilaterally would be foolish. John Shalikashvili, the Army
general who was Chairman of the Joint Chiefs under Clinton, Wesley
Clark, who directed the Kosovo war, and Joseph Hoar, former CinC of
Central Command, are no bunch of bearded pacifists.

THE TIDE IS TURNING AGAIN. DON'T GIVE UP HOPE. WE MUST SPEAK OUT!
