Sustainability was never more fun then at the 5th Annual Athens Area
Sustainability Festival to be held at the Athens County Fairgrounds Saturday
October 8 and Sunday October 9th. Besides great music, workshops and a
children's program there will also be a film festival. To view the agenda
just click on http://www.susfest.org/schedule.shtml. To be a volunteer the
day of the event, or a part of the planning committee simply contact
annie at bluerockstation.com and she will get back to you. If you want to be a
vendor visit http://www.susfest.org for more information.
THE HEART OF IT ALL: Susfest will cap Athens County's sustainability week.
The two-day event will feature live music, a terrific children's program
(learn how to compost using live wiggly worms... make games out of discarded
rubbish... eat warm cookies heated in a solar oven... and a lot more!),
dozens of exhibits from folks who work each day to make this planet a little
greener, lots of terrific food (you won't find any fast food franchises
here) and of course, literally dozens of workshops, roundtable discussions
and presentations.
The workshops will explore everything from biodiesel to beekeeping - from
exploring the wisdom of the hills to dealing with the horrific results of
those that are destroying those hills in search of coal - from school
gardens to cooking in a (and making your own) solar oven... the weekend
promises to inspire you (or at least give you a few new ideas) plus possibly
make a few new friends.
So mark your calendar now for October 8th and 9th and plan to join us. All
of us involved in this activity are volunteers and all money raised will be
donated to charity. Hope to see you at this worthwhile event.
