[Seedgeeks] seedswaps in the news

I see the BBC's top gardening news story today includes a pointer to news of a seedswap - the first, I'm aware of, that the Brits have publicly promoted.

I dropped a line on the organizers a couple of weeks ago. Interesting to see a) how seedswaps are hitting the news and b) just how evolved is our own understanding of the seedswap archetype relative to our transatlantic allies - comparative literature suggests we're ahead of the curve this side of the pond.

At the Corvallis seedswap this weekend, the Eugene contingent sailed in with an astonishing array of biodiversity to share. Indeed, I sense it's fair to say we accounted for the great majority of genetic richness there. It is the first time I remember the Eugene seedgeek tribe travelling en masse to an outta-the-neighborhoood seedswap. An interesting extension of the cultural cross-pollination thang.

In our own chats around this weekend's gig, we thought a push over the course of the next few weeks to position the annual EPG seedswap on March 26 as a "Bioregional" event seems timely. If you know of people around the PNW who might be interested in attending, or who are in touch with networks of gardeners who might, please let them know. If people are travelling and need accomodation, please contact me. The details, once again:

Saturday March 26
10:30 am – 12 noon
Join us for the ANNUAL BIREGIONAL SEED AND PLANT EXCHANGE!
Maitreya EcoVillage (W. Broadway between Almaden and Chambers in West Eugene)
Please bring extra pots, soil, pens, and envelopes.
(used or junk mail envelopes work great for seed
storage!)

For more info email Nick: fellowservant at yahoo.com or vox: 541-912-4070.

Also, I plan to be carrying seed outta Eugene into Olympia, WA around the weekend of March 5-6.
