Wild Mushroom Foraging and Cooking
Meet at Ecovillage Common House Saturday Aug 5, 2-5 PM
Every summer and fall the Eastern woods are full of edible
wild mushrooms, but few people take advantage of this native food.
About 80% of all wild mushrooms are edible (or at least non-toxic),
they are similar to vegetables in nutritional content, and some
kinds, like morels, chanterelles, and boleter are of gourmet quality.
Greg Wright, who is visiting EVI as part of his community
search, and has taught classes on wild mushrooms in many parts of the
country, and written a book on the topic, will lead people on a
mushroom hunt on which we will collect, and later cook, edible
mushrooms we find in the local woods. You may want to bring a basket,
a knife and/or narrow digging tool, and if you have one, a mushroom
field guide.
The event is free. Meet at EVI Common House at 2 on Saturday
or come by at 4 for the cooking. Please RSVP Anita 330-2173
anita at altmayer.com so we have an idea of how much interest there is
and for travel directions. . For more info call Greg Wright at
909-732-1056.
Note: We recognize that careless, incomplete application of edible
mushroom knowledge can be dangerous, so please use this learning
responsibly. EVI assumes no responsibility for misuse.
