Youth Action Team Update
<> The Youth Action Team continues to build partnerships among young leaders
and youth organizations from around the nation through the America's
Sustainable Future Campaign. Visit our Taking IT Global page (under
documents) to download our 1st year report: "The Youth Action Team Profile."

<> This summer the Youth Action Team steering committee grew. Welcome to our
new team members Kevin Kalra, founder of Global Teaching Network and student
at University of Texas at Austin, and Farah Hussain, recent Cornell graduate
and staff member at Alternatives Federal Credit Union doing Small Business
Education in Ithaca New York.
ALERT: The Team is still recruiting 2-3 more steering committee members and
is always on the look out for 'Field Leaders' who can connect us to diverse
constituencies in the Youth Movement. Review the team profile for more
details and contact dnr6 at cornell.edu if you are interested.
<> One way that the Youth Action Team engages youth leaders is through
strategic organizing of youth participation at key 'sustainability' events.
Over the Spring the team was leading workshops and catalyzing local action
networks in the Philadelphia area at the Sustainable Business Network
conference and the 14th annual Food and Health Expo.
Another effort this summer was organizing a US Youth Delegation of 8
representatives from diverse organizations and regions to attend the UN
Habitat's World Urban Forum and World Youth Forum in Vancouver, BC from June
15-23. Our delegation joined over 500 youth leaders and 10,000 diplomats,
NGOs, local authorities, and the business leaders gathered to discuss the
complex issues and practices required for "urban sustainability"
Youth had an active role in the entire process and to learn more visit

<> Another way the Youth Action Team is building youth leadership for a
sustainable future is through Local Youth Council development. Youth Connect
is a County Youth Council pilot project underway in Ithaca, New York, .
Local youth leaders between the ages of 15 and 30 are documenting their work
to share with their peers around the country. Contact the team if you are
interested in helping develop youth councils in your area.
See Youth Connect in the Local News:

<> One exciting outcome of the World Youth Forum will be the formation of a
new listserve for youth in the US and Canada to learn about the successes
and challenges of National Youth Councils from their peers around the world.
STAY TUNED FOR THE LAUNCH OF THE LIST SERVE.
