Ref:
Company wants to build "green' power plant in CNY
Syracuse, ESF, Siemens would be partners. It could cut city's power
bill.

Lynch said the state has no outright ban on the burning of wood in
power plants. But he said the state is concerned about the potential
nitrogen emissions, which lead to acid rain.
Olcott said Siemens will work closely with regulatory agencies like the
DEC
to ensure the plant meets environmental standards.

Couple of inputs, thoughts:

1. The pdf file below indicates gasified wood combustion is not an
acid rain threat and it produces 90% less CO2 than fossil fuels (in
addition to being CO2 neutral as renewable?) Any addition references on
this appreciated. http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient

2. Here is the forestry site on willow crops (I think I got this
from an earlier ST note on gasifiers and combined heat and power
generators. There is plenty of poor soil lands in the region that would
be suitable for this. Looks like a reasonable way to localize power
production.
