Bringing Sustainability to the Holiday Season
Sustainable Tompkins Community Gathering - A Family friendly event!
Sustainable Tompkins' monthly gathering on Thursday, November 9, 6:00
- 8:30 p.m. at Cooperative Extension, 615 Willow Avenue, will have a
"Holiday-go-Lightly" theme, featuring hands-on demonstrations of ways
to make gifts, cards, and holiday wrappings from reused materials.
The gathering will start with a potluck dinner of local and homemade
foods and a chance for people to share their own successes in making
the holidays more relaxing, meaningful, and earth-friendly.
Sustainability educator Elan Shapiro will speak on conscious
consuming and what helps us change culturally ingrained habits,
followed by a few short, inspiring presentations, then lots of free
materials and time for making recycle and reuse gifts. Learn how to
make beautiful cards and wrappings from recycled calendars, turn old
magazines and wrapping paper into paper beads, turn old t-shirts
into new fashions, make a blue jean handbag, and use fabric to wrap
and carry gifts. Please join us, and invite a friend or two.
