Great idea, Dan. Here's what I wrote:
All of the eight topics you suggest are tied together with one common
thread: Sustainability. Sustainability encompasses the fiscal
(jobs/economy), social (education, safety, heaalth care), and planetary
(transportation, environment) aspects of life. Every discussion held in
these policy areas should be informed by sustainability thinking. An
excellent model, and many capable practitioners, can be found through
Sustainable Tompkins, an all-volunteer grassroots coalition of
individuals working for a sustainable community, region, and world. Find
more information at www.sustainabletompkins.org. Ithaca College and
Cornell University are partners in this group and have both got very
active sustainability working groups and projects that can be used to
help statewide efforts. I would be happy to participate in these
discussions as well.
