2007  Request for Proposals: Elevate Sustainability in Your Community with 
the Sustainable  Design Assessment Team (SDAT) Program 
The SDAT  program is a community assistance program of the American Institute 
of  Architects (AIA) that focuses on the principles of sustainability; the 
program  is managed by the AIA’s Center for Communities by Design. The SDAT 
program  provides an integrated design and policy based assessment for 
participating  communities. The SDAT will bring a team of volunteer professionals (such 
as  architects, urban designers, planners, hydrologists, economists, attorneys, 
and  others) to work with community decision-makers and stakeholders to help 
them  develop a vision and framework for a sustainable future. The SDAT 
program is  based on the AIA’s goal of helping communities create a sustainable 
relationship  between humans, the natural environment, and place. By achieving 
balance between  cultural, environmental, and economic systems, communities can 
sustain a place  as a stage for human settlement. 
The RFP for the 2007 SDATs is  currently open and will remain open until 
November 30, 2006. The AIA will  provide up to $25,000 in cash and in-kind 
contributions per SDAT in 2007.  Communities will provide a $5,000 cash match as well 
as contribute other  resources to the process.
