2007 Request for Proposals: Elevate Sustainability in Your Community with
the Sustainable Design Assessment Team (SDAT) Program
The SDAT program is a community assistance program of the American Institute
of Architects (AIA) that focuses on the principles of sustainability; the
program is managed by the AIA’s Center for Communities by Design. The SDAT
program provides an integrated design and policy based assessment for
participating communities. The SDAT will bring a team of volunteer professionals (such
as architects, urban designers, planners, hydrologists, economists, attorneys,
and others) to work with community decision-makers and stakeholders to help
them develop a vision and framework for a sustainable future. The SDAT
program is based on the AIA’s goal of helping communities create a sustainable
relationship between humans, the natural environment, and place. By achieving
balance between cultural, environmental, and economic systems, communities can
sustain a place as a stage for human settlement.
The RFP for the 2007 SDATs is currently open and will remain open until
November 30, 2006. The AIA will provide up to $25,000 in cash and in-kind
contributions per SDAT in 2007. Communities will provide a $5,000 cash match as well
as contribute other resources to the process.
