Join the PVC "Big Box Retailer" Day of Action October 11th!
(Please forward far and wide)
Join parents, consumers, and students from around the country on October
11th and demand that "Big Box" retailers clean up their act and phase out
PVC, the poison plastic. The day of action will target one of the nation's
largest retailers (to be announced soon) that sells many common consumer
products such as children's toys, baby products, and shower curtains made
out of or packaged in the poison plastic. The day of action will feature
the launch of a hilarious new animated spoof video, "Sam Suds and the Case
of PVC, the Poison Plastic."
Join us October 11th and organize a local event as part of the PVC Day of
Action, and we'll send you a kit with everything you need to put together a
highly effective event. Your event can be as small as just you and a friend
handing out literature or as large as scores of people demonstrating outside
of our local store. Participating is easy, fun, and most importantly, a
great way to educate the public about what we can all do to protect our
families from unnecessary dangerous chemicals in our homes.
What we can provide to your group:
- Copies of letters that have gone to the retailer's corporate headquarters
- A set of colorful hazmat suits to wear in front of the store to draw
interest and media attention
- Attention-grabbing signs to hold in front of the store
- Flyers and postcards to hand out about PVC hazards and safer alternatives
- Copies of "Sam Suds and the Case of PVC, the Poison Plastic" on DVD for
reporters and/or to screen at a house party, conference, community meeting,
or other event
- A sample letter you can give to the store manager
- A model media advisory and press release to send to local reporters
- Information and advice on organizing a fun and effective event
Ideas and suggestions for organizing a local event:
- Distributing flyers and postcards to customers entering the store
- Dressing up in haxmat suits and holding up signs (which we can provide)
outside the store
- Holding a press conference outside of the store announcing the launch of
this new campaign
- Buying PVC products at the store and symbolically returning them to the
store manager along with a letter (with the TV cameras and media in tow
Michael Moore style).
- Taping off aisles with "toxic scene" tape
- Creating a giant banner and holding it outside the store
