Save Sapsucker Woods group meeting TONIGHT, September 13, Kendal at
Ithaca, 2230 N. Triphammer Road, Conference Room C, 7:00 pm. Save
Sapsucker Woods is a group organizing to oppose housing development
in the northeastern part of Ithaca, in the area adjacent to the
Sapsucker Woods bird sanctuary. The purpose of the meeting is to
share ideas, reflect on past efforts to conserve the area's open
space, and devise an effective strategy to save these woods. Anyone
in the area interested in discussing conservation issues and helping
our cause is welcome. Directions: Kendal at Ithaca is located on N.
Triphammer Road between Community Corners and Route 13. As you enter
the Kendal grounds, turn left at the T-junction toward Visitor
Parking. Follow the road until you see Visitor Parking on your right.
Enter through the main entrance, pass the reception desk, and proceed
to the end of the corridor. Turn right, and Conference Room C will be
the first door on the right. More info:

Sustainable Tompkins monthly meeting September 14, 6:00-8:30 pm,
Cornell Cooperative Extension, 615 Willow Ave. This month's
discussion will center on sustainable transporation. Come to hear
about local efforts to support sustainable transportation with a
panel of your neighbors, government officials, innovators and
entrepreneurs. There will be opportunities to connect one-on-one and
in small groups with organized initiatives and get inspired with
do-it-yourself ideas for all kinds of local and regional mobility.
The Cayuga Waterfront Trail, TCAT, Curb Your Car Coalition, Ithaca
Car Share, Recycle Ithaca's Bicycles, Cornell Transportation, and
others will be there to facilitate discussion and contribute to
identifying possible and existing solutions to local issues.
Sustainable Tompkins gatherings are a place for local citizens to
network and learn about each others interests and involvements in the
sustainability movement. The meeting will begin with a potluck dinner
-including many locally grown and produced foods. More info: Elan

New web site: FINGER LAKES BUY GREEN
<http://www.fingerlakesbuygreen.org>http://www.fingerlakesbuygreen.org,
a service of the Tompkins County Solid Waste Division and Sustainable
Tompkins. From an email to ICN:
"We are excited to be able to provide this useful resource to
residents of the Finger Lakes region. Right now we have information
and advice as to where to purchase a selection of environmentally
preferable office supplies locally. We are currently compiling a
directory of cleaning and janitorial supplies which should be
available by end October. That will be followed by repairs and
maintenance, and early next year by yard and garden."
Editor's note: They've done all the research for you on what makes a
product "green" so you don't have to. I clicked through the site to
figure out how to use it, and it's easy and will be a great resource.
When you click through the site, if you find something you want to
purchase, just check "wish list" and when you are finished browsing,
the web site will generate a shopping list for you with all the local
stores where you can get your environmentally preferable office
products (with the other categories coming soon).
