Volunteers Sought for Salt Point Cleanup
~Lansing
Saturday, Sept. 16, 9-11 a.m. volunteers are needed to remove trash from the
shore of Cayuga Lake at Salt Point, Lansing. Located on the north side of
Salmon Creek, Salt Point is property of NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation
that relies volunteers for an annual clean up organized by the Cayuga Lake
Watershed Network and the Town of Lansing. Volunteers should meet in the
parking lot behind the DEC sign. Work gloves and trash bags will be provided. The
clean up is part of a nationwide, annual effort to collect data on shoreline
litter as an important step in reducing its occurrence. For example, the
data has been used to support legislation requiring deposits on cans and
bottles. People interesting in participating should contact Sharon Anderson,
Watershed Steward with the Cayuga Lake Watershed Network at 607-280-5580 or
steward at cayugalake.org.
