Subject: Tell Target the poison plastic is out of style October 11th
To: tonydelplato at gmail.com
Dear Friend:
Join CHEJ--and families from around the country--October 11th and tell
Target to phase out PVC, the poison plastic. Target may have the latest hip
designs, but their aisles are filled with products made from chemicals
linked to cancer. They sell many common consumer products such as
children's toys, baby products, and shower curtains made out of or packaged
in PVC. PVC products are dangerous to our health and the environment from
start to finish--in the facotry, at home, and in the trash--releasing
poisonous chemicals linked to cancer and birth defects. The good news is
safe and cost effective alternatives exist, and other companies such as
Wal-Mart, Microsoft, Nike, and Ikea are phasing out PVC in products or
packaging.
Let Target know the poison plastic is out of style on October 11th.
Join the Center for Health, Environment & Justice's PVC National Day of
Action and hold an event at a Target store in your area. Your event can be
anything from you and a friend handing out flyers to a news conference to
scores of people dressed in hazmat suits demonstrating outside your local
store. To find a Target store near you, go to
www.target.com<http://ent.groundspring.org/EmailNow/pub.php?module=URLTracker&cmd=track&j=97137586&u=916829>and
click on "Find a Store" at the top. Participating is easy, fun, and
most importantly a great way to educate the public about what we can all do
to protect our families from unnecessary dangerous chemicals in our homes.
The day of action features the launch of a hilarious animated spoof video,
"Sam Suds and the Case of PVC, the Poison Plastic."
We can send you an event organizing kit, which includes everything you need
to put together a highly effective event. You will get the following items
in plenty of time to organize a great event:
--Attention-grabbing printed signs, postcards, and flyers to hand out about
PVC hazards and safer alternatives
--Colorful "hazmat" suits to wear in front of the store to draw interest and
media attention
--DVDs of "Sam Suds, and the Case of PVC, the Poison Plastic" to screen at a
house party, conference, community meeting, or other event
--Sample letter you can give to the store manager
--Sample media advisory and press release to send to local reporters
--Tips on organizing a fun and effective event
Your voice makes a difference: "Consumer and group pressure organized by
CHEJ's PVC Campaign has already resulted in the phase out of PVC packaging
by Microsoft, Johnson & Johnson, and Crabtree & Evelyn," said Lois Gibbs,
CHEJ Executive Director. "It also played a role in Wal-Mart's decision to
phase out PVC packaging for their private label brands."
