Global Environment & Youth Voice/Youth Vote 2008 Coordinator
Americans for Informed Democracy (AID) is looking for a dynamic,
passionate individual to work in our Baltimore headquarters to
coordinate environmental initiatives as well as mobilize for Youth
Voice/Youth Vote 2008—our 2008 electoral initiative. AID works with
23,000 students on more than 1,000 campuses to raise awareness of
pressing global issues, present solutions from foreign policy
specialists, and give students and young professionals the tools to make
a difference on their campuses and in their communities. Now AID is
partnering with global experts to ensure that presidential candidates
across the political spectrum understand that there are solutions to
many of these issues and that young people want candidates to address
these issues. This is a tremendous opportunity to work with one of the
leading youth organizations in the country to ensure that global issues
are part of the next election-cycle and that young people’s voices are
heard in this cycle. F urthermore, through the environmental programming
you’ll work closely with dedicated individuals implementing changes on
their campuses and in their communities.
AID is hiring a Global Environment &Youth Voice/Youth Vote Coordinator
to work in a fast-paced, youth-led office to organize regional summits
to educate young people about some of these issues and solutions;
connect them with foreign policy experts, equip them with the ability to
speak to these issues in a commonsense and inclusive way; and support
their efforts to mobilize and hold candidates accountable on these issues.
The Global Environment & Youth Voice/Youth Vote coordinator will be
responsible for:
* Organizing one Global Leader’s Summit specifically on climate
change and making changes back on campus this spring in February or March.
* Organizing one International Youth Videoconference around Earth
Day in April, connecting youth in the US with youth in other countries
as they brainstorm what they can collectively do to curb climate change.
* Supporting 40+ campus events this spring (film screenings, panel
discussions, speaking tours, campaigns for changes, etc) with media
outreach, professor e-mail publicity blasts, and mailing films or other
supplies.
* Organizing four Global Leader’s Summits on international issues
and the next president in New Mexico, Colorado, Ohio, and Florida in
August 2008.
* Preparing a Youth Voter’s Guide on International Issues and
planning distribution and dissemination of the guide.
* Developing and directing the production of a Youth Vote survey on
international issues, including distribution, dissemination of the
survey and more.
* Participating in general office management and other programmatic
work as needed.
The right candidate should:
* Demonstrate a commitment to and understanding of global issues
(an emphasis on climate change preferred);
* Have strong organizational skills;
* Demonstrated ability to work with youth;
* Be willing to work and travel some weekends
* Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills
* Familiarity with new technologies and user-generated content
* Work well under pressure
* Have a sense of humor
* Conference organizing experience preferred
* Ability to multi-task
This is a full-time, paid position. AID offers a competitive
compensation and benefits package including health, dental, vision, and
life insurance policies, a great deal of flexibility, a generous
comp-time and leave policy, and a friendly, committed, team of
experienced youth advocates. Salary range for this position is
$26,500-$30,000.
Starting date for this position would be between January 14-February 4,
2008. This is a one-year commitment with the possibility of extension.
