The sender attached the proposed document so I guess people will need to email her to send it privately. It was not in a form I could cut and paste without it being a mess and I've already been jumped on enough for that though it's not deliberate...here's hoping this post (and the other thing I sent) comes through OK.

Subject: Tompkins County Waste Reduction Policy
Dear Friends,
In November 2006, Tompkins County adopted a resolution entitled “In Support of a
ustainability Program for Tompkins County Government,” which recognizes the
mportance of pursuing sustainable practices at all levels of the organization.
hrough this resolution, a County Sustainability Team and several sub-committees
ere formed to develop an action plan that incorporates sustainability into
ngoing County practices.
In working towards accomplishing these goals, the Sustainability Team's Waste
eduction sub-committee developed a comprehensive policy on reducing and reusing
aste, as well as composting and recycling materials before disposal in a
andfill. It also takes into consideration a lifecycle approach when purchasing
roducts.
This policy is the culmination of over two decades of waste reduction
nitiatives in our community. Currently throughout the county, more than 55% of
aste is diverted from the landfill, indicating that we have accomplished a
reat deal in the last 20 years. As we look ahead, our goal of 75% waste
eduction by 2015 is achievable.
By adopting this Waste Reduction policy, Tompkins County will promote practices
n our community that benefit future generations and inspire a culture of
ustainability in other municipalities, public and private entities, as well as
mong residents.
n Tuesday, December 18 at 5:30, the Tompkins County Legislature will be voting
n this Waste Reduction policy. It is important that members of the Board know
hat this policy is supported. If you support waste reduction within Tompkins
ounty, please voice your opinion with board members by coming to the meeting on
uesday or by contacting them in advance ( http://www.tompkins-co.org/legislature/members/
.
Your support in passing this policy is greatly appreciated and will make a big
ifference in our community. If you have any questions, please contact me at
mccarthy at tompkins-co.org.
Many thanks,
