[SustainableTompkins] what are the carbon consequences of wood stoves?

Greetings from Boston, S.T persons!

I lurk here  but I do read your discussions because I see your collective
concerns and level of awareness as a harbinger.  Might be other such groups
closer to home but I haven't run into them yet.

I have a question you must have discussed here before:
Compared with any "conventional" heat sources for domestic heat, what are
the relative merits of wood heat, in a long term  time frame, with respect
to carbon emissions?  I'd like to think that any CO2 I am putting back in
the air is from CO2 that was sequestered some time since the begining of the
industrial revolution "hockey stick" or, more likely , in my lifetime since
I am over 50.  but that sounds to good to be true.  What are the factors to
consider in assessing this?
