Our distinguished presenters for this Sustainability Cafe:
Julianne Lutz (Newton) Warren is a 1988 graduate of Ithaca College's
Biology department, where she conducted avian research with Dr. John
Confer. Her first Master's degree involved teaching scientific concepts
for those with English as a second language. Her next degree was in
Environmental Science concerned with nesting success of grassland birds
in fragmented habitats. Her doctorate concerned the intellectual
development of Aldo Leopold's idea of land health. Her thesis was
recently published as "Aldo Leopold's Odyssey" with considerable,
positive review. Julianne implements these values as President of the
Board of the John Burroughs Institute and she writes widely about the
environment.
A. Carl Leopold is a scientist who wrote the founding text for Plant
Physiology. Carl has served on the President's National Science Advisory
Board. He and his siblings have been the spokespersons for the Leopold
legacy and have published often on a diversity of topics. Carl was
founding President of the Finger Lakes Land Trust and co-founded the
Tropical Reforestation Initiative. Carl is a well-known and well-loved
member of our community and a spokesperson for maintaining the health of
our natural environment.
