I just found out about the NYS Climate Summit to be held at Cornell just under two weeks from now, Nov. 16-18
The main organizer, Carlos Rymer, is also the presenter at the Cornell Colloquium November 16th, "Youth and the Climate Movement." Don't know where on Cornell. Googled to find the info below. Open to the Public. Don't know how long it has been in the making. I used to be in touch with KyotoNow, one of the organizing groups, until they started bouncing my emails.
PURPOSE: A strong global warming bill has been introduced into both the State Senate and the Assembly. The bill has been sitting in the Environmental Conservation Committee without urgent consideration. It is time for the citizens of New York State to rise and demand that this important bill be passed immediately to show the federal government what we mean by leadership.
The New York State Climate Summit will be the place to train New York’s campus and community organizers and craft a plan of action to pressure Albany to pass this important global warming bill. To be held at Cornell University on November 16-18, 2007, it will be an opportunity for grassroots planning and networking to launch a statewide campaign that will ensure that Albany passes this important global warming bill, which will bring greenhouse gas emission levels back to 1990 levels by 2020 and 80% below 1990 levels by 2050.
Same weekend as the Community Energy Forum though that is Saturday only.

Dear Campus/Community Leader,
On behalf of the Sierra Student Coalition, we are writing to invite you to
the New York State Climate Summit 2007, which will take place at Cornell
University on November 16-18, 2007. We are in a time of rapid social and
political change as the impacts of global warming become clear and the
need for immediate, strong action becomes more urgent. As you may know,
many states around the nation are leading on this issue, yet our federal
government has been reluctant to change the status quo of massive dirty
energy use. As a leading state in our nation, New York must be in line
with the most aggressive actions that other states are taking. And that?s
what we plan to achieve through this summit.
The New York State Climate Summit will unite campus and community
organizations in 1) training youth and active community members to run
effective campus and community campaigns around the issue of global
warming, and 2) agree on a state-wide strategy to pass S.5872, legislation
sitting in Albany that will mandate that New York reduces its greenhouse
gas emissions 80% below 1990 levels by 2050. With these two goals in mind,
we will energize campus and community campaigns for local victories around
the state and then follow a course of action that will get aggressive
legislation passed in Albany. This, in turn, will send a strong signal to
Washington, D.C. about what it needs to do to fight this urgent issue.
We are currently in the planning stages of the summit, and would like to
have your organization participate in the planning of the overall agenda
of the summit to incorporate the ideas and goals of constituencies around
the state. We have set up a Google Group for the planning of this summit
and will also have bi-weekly conference calls for the purpose of planning
beginning this week or next week, depending on availabilities.
If you would like to help plan the summit or simply be in the planning
Google list, please let us know by e-mailing or calling Carlos Rymer at
carlos.ry... at gmail.com or 551-556-0189.
We hope to work with you in this amazing opportunity to set New York as a
leader on this pressing issue.
Cordially,
Summit Planning Team (Amanda Hass, Carlos Rymer, and Katherine McEachern)

The New York State Climate Summit: Making New York A Leader
Background
The global warming science debate is over. From well-respected scientists to the Bush Administration, it is accepted that human activities are driving global warming. Now, the new reports and observations showing the quick pace of global warming as compared to the most recent projections of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, it is crucial that leadership is exercised everywhere on this issue if we are to convince the federal government and the rest of the world to take this issue very seriously. Only aggressive mandates to reduce greenhouse gas emissions will prevent the world from experiencing the worst effects of global warming, including unprecedented sea-level rise, widespread drought and floods, loss of agriculture, and a hard punch to the world economy.
Already, states like California, New Jersey, Oregon, Hawaii, and Minnesota have committed to relatively aggressive targets to fight this issue, and communities all over the country are mobilizing to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions. Yet the federal government refuses to do the same, instead continuing subsidizing dirty fossil fuels and encouraging business as usual. That is why New York State must become a strong leader on this issue. We must make this happen.
A strong global warming bill has been introduced into both the State Senate and the Assembly. The bill has been sitting in the Environmental Conservation Committee without urgent consideration. It is time for the citizens of New York State to rise and demand that this important bill be passed immediately to show the federal government what we mean by leadership.
