ACTION PROJECTS FOR A SUSTAINABLE ITHACA
Sustainable Tompkins invites you to our monthly community gathering
on Wednesday, November 14, from 6:30 - 8:30 PM at the Annex of the
Unitarian Church, on 208 E. Buffalo St. near Aurora St., in downtown
Ithaca. The event begins with a potluck dinner, including some
local-food dishes provided by the students in the Green Cities
courses in both Ithaca College and Cornell (So, if in a hurry, don't
worry about dish preparation).
The program will highlight action-oriented student projects that
support community groups working to create a more just and
sustainable region. The projects include: a bold proposal to improve
mass transit and reverse sprawl and congestion in our area; mapping
of community resources that support healthy eating and active living
in Tompkins County; support for developing a "Neighborhood
Cooperative Bloc" in Fall Creek; and research into possible LEED
("Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design") neighborhood
certification of the proposed Southwest Park urban village.
This is an opportunity to see campus-community collaboration at its
best, working together to create a positive future for all (and
getting credit for it, too!)
