Hi TC Sustainers:
Chalk up a victory for safer products and protecting the environment. You
may remember about a year ago, Margaret McCasland and I, with support from
Pete Myers & photo's by Marty Luster, demonstrated in hazmat outfits in
front of Target, asking them to remove products and packaging that contain
PVC's. It looks like similar efforts throughout the country have finally
caused Target to relent and do the right thing.
Okay, one pellet removed, a few billion more to go!

*Victory! Target Commits to Systematically Reduce PVC!*
Hi Tony,
*I wanted you to be one of the first to know about our major victory! *Today,
after over a year of pressure from CHEJ and a coalition of health and
environmental organizations, Target has agreed to systematically reduce its
use of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastic. The company is reducing PVC found
in many of its owned brand products including infant products, children's
toys, shower curtains, packaging and fashion accessories. This victory was
even featured in an article in today's Wall Street Journal.
Your support and involvement has helped make this happen! Over the past
year, CHEJ has brought together a groundswell of concerned people like you
to convince the $59 billion retailer to move out of PVC. We need your help
to build on this momentum and persuade more companies to phase out their use
of this toxic plastic. *Please click here to give a gift of

Over the course of the campaign, CHEJ and our partner organizations held
over 230 press conferences, protests, and flyering events at Target stores
across the country. Two events featured a 25-foot rubber ducky outside
stores in CA and NY. CHEJ's online animated video "Sam Suds" was seen over
50,000 times in the first month it was released.
Target, the fifth largest U.S. retailer, is joining a growing list of
companies including Wal-Mart, Microsoft, Johnson & Johnson, Nike and Apple
that are eliminating or reducing its use and sale of PVC products. Thank
you for your continued support and activism to help CHEJ convince these
companies to phase out PVC.
Please help us spread the word by forwarding this to friends, family and
coworkers.
Thank you for helping to eliminate this toxic plastic from our marketplace
-- we couldn't have done it without you!
Sincerely,
Lois Marie Gibbs, Executive Director
