Hello ST and Hub Friends,
I've been working with the City of Ithaca and the Ithaca Downtown
Partnership to replace the pavilion lights on the Commons and the holiday lighting on
the downtown lamp posts with energy-efficient LED lights. Thanks to a
generous grant from MEGA (Municipal Electric and Gas Alliance, our local nonprofit
energy aggregator), we have on hand enough LED light strings for the pavilions
and 50 lamp posts. This should save about $4500 a year in electricity costs
for the City (the pavilion lights are on all year).
Now all we need is some help putting them up! The city's electricians are
overbooked with other projects related to the Aurora Street and parking garage
projects. In order to free up their time to get the pavilion project done
this fall, I offered to try and find volunteers to take on the lamp post
project.
We need volunteers this Sunday between 10 am and 4 pm on the Commons. Come
for a two-hour shift or come for longer. Our task will be to wind the LED
strings up the lamp posts along with fresh pine boughs (and I think some bows).
The IDP will provide supervision and materials and a sturdy ladder. We
have 3 volunteers so far and need 9 more to cover 2-hour shifts of 10-12, 12-2,
and 2-4.
It should be decent weather on Sunday, so I hope you can help me out and
spare a couple of hours to set up this demonstration of how easy it is to shift
to energy-saving options. If you can help us for a short time, please email
me or give me a call and let me know when you'd be able to make it.
many thanks,
Gay
