Put Yourself on the Map! Sustainable Tompkins 2007 Holiday Party
Dear Friends,
Please join us on December 7th at 6:30 p.m. for a holiday gathering to
celebrate sustainability in Tompkins County and the surrounding area. RSVP to
Marian Brown at 274-3787 or _mbrown at ithaca.edu_ (mailto:mbrown at ithaca.edu)
because space is limited.
The party will be held in the Dodds Room, First Presbyterian Church of
Ithaca, 315 N. Cayuga Street in Ithaca. Enter at the side door facing Court Street
and go downstairs. For folks with mobility impairments, there is street
level access and an elevator to the ground floor.
Our theme for the night is “Put Yourself on the Map.” Sustainable Tompkins
is working on building an interactive online map of the local sustainability
movement in all its diversity and growing expertise, and we’d like your help
in identifying all the people and organizations connected to our local
movement.
We’ll get started by selecting one or more sustainability icons for our
nametags. Then we'll mix it up with some time for meeting and greeting new and
old friends while taking turns drawing on the map, to identify categories we
think the various initiatives and programs of our organizations come under (e.g.
energy, health, transportation, justice, land use, education, etc). When
complete, the Sustainability Map will help newcomers plug into the movement
where they are most interested, demonstrate to supporters and visitors the scope
of our local movement, and help ourselves stay connected.
A buffet dinner will be served at 7:00 p.m. by members of the newly formed
Cayuga Sustainability Council – a roundtable of representatives from local
sustainability organizations. A donation of $5.00 per person is recommended to
defray costs. This is a no alcohol event.
We are encouraging guests to bring their own place settings—plates, cups,
utensils and napkins—to avoid having to throw away paper plates and plastic
cups. During dessert we’ll take time to acknowledge the exciting new Signs of
Sustainability that came about in 2007.
This evening is a great opportunity to show personal and financial support
for local sustainability efforts that benefit you and your community. In
addition to great food and time with friends, you will have an opportunity to
learn how sustainability really is about all of us.
Last year’s event was well attended by approximately 100 people. This year’
s venue has a capacity of 140 so reserve your place now! Contact Marian
Brown at 274-3787 or _mbrown at ithaca.edu_ (mailto:mbrown at ithaca.edu) to make
your reservation. Please provide the following info:
