Dear all,
Please join me to StepItUp! this Nov 3, 2-4 pm in the Arts Quad, Ezra
statue. If it is raining, we will meet at Goldwin Smith Hall 181. If you
can't make it, please still pass on this email to others.
Step it UP! (http://stepitup2007.org/) is a nationally coordinated protest
to demand 80% reductions in CO2 emissions by 2050. There will be hundreds
of events around the country. 80% by 2050 is the minimal reduction in
greenhouse gas emissions needed to avoid the worst effects of climate
change.
The theme is: Who is a leader? - with the goal of inviting as many
politicians as possible. We are a little late in organizing this, so we
might not have (m)any "leaders" at the event. However, not just
politicians and "important" people are leaders, but each one of us can be
leaders at home, at work, and in our community by raising awareness and
promoting concrete actions. It depends on each one of us if we can solve
the climate crisis or not, and therefore it is up to all of us to step up
and do more than we think we can - because who else will?
We will have time for each of us to step up and have our own voices heard,
and to discuss what each one of us can do to ensure a safe future for all.
We will also have music and potluck cookies and cake (please bring some
along, if you have time!), potentially donated coffee (please bring your
own mug!), and anything else you can think of and bring along. Kids are
absolutely welcome and wanted.
Since there is not much time until then, please help spread the word to
all people and listservs in town you know, making sure that we have a
large crowd on campus. Please know that there is another StepItUp event,
organized by Krys Cail (krys.cail at gmail.com), in Tupelko Park.
Thanks for your help, and I look forward to seeing you next week!
Maiken
