Cornell Organization for Labor Action (COLA) and the Social Justice
Committee of Ithaca Monthly Meeting (Quakers) are the proud sponsors
of the Ithaca appearance of Reverend Billy's and the Church of Stop
Shopping choir.
The dynamic and inspiring performance troupe is bringing their
message of "radical localism" to Ithaca THIS weekend.
Their opposition to clothes and doodads made in sweat-shops and
unsafe factories were featured in Morgan Spurlock's film, "What Would
Jesus Buy?" Check out <revbilly.com> for some of the flavor of the
film and the troupe's work.
[from Margaret: I saw the film, and Billy and the troupe really get
the importance of local economies and the wastefulness of mall-based
culture]
Saturday: the Reverend Billy will save us from our consumerist demons!
7 pm
Anabel Taylor Chapel
Anabel Taylor Hall, Cornell University
ATH is at the corner of Campus Road and College Ave (the section
formerly known as East Avenue)
Sunday: celebrate radical localism with the Reverend Billy and the
Church of Stop Shopping Choir!
12:30
Ithaca Commons
Aurora St Pavilion
from COLA:
Let's get together and figure out what needs to be done to save our
communities and our souls! Amen!
They are exuberant activists engaged in radical performance actions
and campaigns to reclaim community through beating back the urge to
consume those sweatshop products and through fighting the corporate
takeover of our space and minds. Exorcising the demons from Starbucks
cash registers!!
Amidst the bra and panty racks in Victoria's Secret, shouting out the
truth about the clear-cutting of Canadian Boreal forests for the
company's million catalogs a day!!
Pushing the limits of activism, and doing it with song, dance and
pizzazz. Let's learn to put the fun back into activism!
