All, this is just an FYI about a very useful set of studies put out by an
institute run at Carnegie Mellon

I have had occasion to wonder such things as "what are the full-life impacts
of things I buy such as computers"
and gotten some thoughtful answers on this list.  Well many such answers,
buttressed with extensive
data gathering and sound math modeling techniques can be found here:
