A Syracuse group - the Gear Factory Collective that is collectively designing renovations for a former industrial site in syracuse is looking for ideas, particularly about green roofs. Their vision includes residential units, art space, sustainability programming, all kinds of neat things. The monthly meetings are open, and I know they'd appreciate input from knowledgeable Ithacans. contact person is Rick Destito, email above.

Just wanted to make sure. I try to be sensitive about people getting too many e-mails. =) Also I totally understand that it's not easy to just drop by for meetings when you live so far away.
I don't know if you got the emails or updates for sustainability and the green roof, but I have an interesting question for you. As you know the cost of rehab for any building this size is huge, so not to dumb it down or cut things out, I want to explore every avenue I can to make this building everything it should be. So on top of everything else, how do you afford to do a green roof is a good question? Since from the get go, we've wanted to make the green roof available to the public with a focus on three things;
social interaction by landscape design layout
to bring the fascinating history of the of the surrounding area out again
to educate people on the benefits of green roofs and sustainability
Someone brought up the idea of partnering with a green not-for profit to build out the green roof for public use and awareness. Do you have any thoughts on this? I guess it would basically be the same thing as selling or leasing a condo to someone but in this case it would be a whole roof.
Feel free to pass anything on to your friends or people you think would be interested.
Actually, if you want to invite people to the group you can get them connected and gain points for it at the same time. =)
1. Log onto the The Gear Factory Collective X site. If you are reading this you're probably already here.
2. Go to the home page. To get there, on the top of the page, just below where it says The Gear Factory in big letters is the navigation bar a set of headings in a darker blue strip. Click on Summary all the way to the left.
3. As you scroll down the Summary page you'll come across a yellow highlighted text that says, Help to grow this group by inviting others to join. Click on that. Or just click on the INVITE tab in the navigation bar.
4. Once the next page comes up all you have to do is write or paste in the email address of the person you think would like to be involved. If you would like to invite more people at the same time all you have to do is after each email address type a comma, a space, and then the next email. Just like this:
johndoe at collectivex.com, janedoe at collectivex.com, etc.
You can add as many as you want, go nuts. You can also customize the message that goes out with it.
If each person took 10 minutes to invite 5 to 8 people this site would grow super fast. And the faster the site grows the faster development can be possible.
Thank you,
Rick Destito

Hope you have been doing and I'm looking forward to the public art conference we're planning with SPAC.
In your email, I just wanted to be sure. Did you mean that you want to stop getting emails for a while or where you asking if it was ok for you to pass the invites on to your friends that you thought might be interested? Either is fine. =)
Please just let me know.
Thanks,
Rick
