I forwarded Tom's comments on SLS to my daughter, who has an organic
household and personal care products web site (and business) in
Australia. Here is her response, with emphasis and [edits] added:
Thanks for sending that interesting on a number of counts... Id like
to read the whole thread, can you forward it to me? I'm a big fan of
promoting not shampooing daily... once or twice a week should be
enough for most adults, and once or twice a month for kids.
Interesting about Dr Bronners... I have actually been thinking about
adding them to my line of products, as it is one of the only other
companies that lives up to my standards. Narelle (the miessence
founder) mentioned them as one of only two other companies that makes
organic personal care products that are certified to food grade
standards, as opposed to the weaker "cosmetic" standards. I use
their liquid soap and bar soap and lip balm, as miessence doesn't
have comparable products.
I've heard that SLS isn't that bad, compared with other chemicals,
the sad thing is, products which say they are SLS-free sometimes use
SLES (Sodium Lauryth Sulphite), which is actually MORE dangerous...
I use the cosmetics database that he [Tom Shelley] mentioned regularly.
