themed "A Decent Dissent: Cultural Activism Towards a Sustainable Africa." *

The Coalition of Pan African Scholars (COAS) will be hosting its fourth
annual Africa Week beginning on Sunday, March 2nd 2008. The week will
comprise of events including educational keynote presentations, film
screenings, cultural banquets, and the highly anticipated fashion show,
Afrik! In this our fourth year, Africa Week is themed "A Decent Dissent:
Cultural Activism Towards a Sustainable Africa" and hopes to galvanize
students through the aforementioned programs, to address as well as develop
solutions for the many issues that affect the Continent. Africa Week 2008
promises to be a truly exciting week, and we welcome you to join us as we
celebrate Africa, her culture, and her people.

* UNITY HOUR - "AFRICAN SOLUTIONS FOR AFRICA"*
Ujamaa Res. Ctr. (Main Lounge) Time: 8:30-9:30pm
*Presentation on the problems Africa faces on its path towards
sustainability: not only in the environmental sense but all aspects (i.e.
economical)*

 *Monday, March 3rd*
* KEYNOTE ADDRESS: DR. MICERE MUGO*
"Poetry and Spoken Word as tools for Cultural Activism"
Location: GS Kaufmann Auditorium
Time: 5:00 – 6:30pm
*Dr. Micere Githae Mugo is a Kenyan by birth, forced to flee Kenya into
exile in 1982 at the height of repression against political activists by the
Moi dictatorship, eventually becoming a citizen of Zimbabwe.

*Tuesday, March 4th*
* AFRICA WEEK ART FESTIVAL*
Location: Willard Straight Gallery Room
Time: 11:00am – 2:30pm
"Art for a Good Cause"
*Arts and artifacts from across the continent will be available while
donations will be accepted to ship computers to a school in Bimbilla, Ghana.

*Wednesday, March 5th*
* AMANDLA: A REVOLUTION IN FOUR PART HARMONY*
Location: Africana Multipurpose Room
Time: 5:00 – 7:00pm
*The stirring account of the struggle against racial oppression in South
Africa cannot be told without the role of music in that struggle, and that's
the context and subject matter of Lee Hirsch's documentary film, Amandla!
Discussions about the film will take place following.
