EarthHour is coming up on Saturday -- hope you'll participate.  Here  is text 
of the proclamation of Michael Koplinka-Loehr, Chair of the Tompkins  County 
Legislature:

PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS, the first Earth Hour  took place in March 2007 in Sydney, Australia, 
with more than 2.2 million people  participating in an effort that darkened 
such iconic structures as the Sydney  Opera House and the Harbour Bridge and 
resulted in a ten percent drop in energy  dosage – double what had been 
predicted, and

WHEREAS, on Saturday, March  29, 2008, from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., many 
cities and countless individuals  worldwide will turn off the lights for one hour 
as part of a global event  symbolizing support for action on climate change, 

NOW THEREFORE, I,  Michael Koplinka-Loehr, Chair of the Tompkins County 
Legislature, do hereby  proclaim the hour of 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on March 29, 
2008 as:

Earth  Hour in Tompkins County

and urge all residents, businesses, institutions,  and governments to 
participate in this symbolic act to demonstrate support of  combating climate change, 
the gravest threat our planet has faced.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and cause to be affixed  the 
great seal of the County of Tompkins this 19th day of March,  2008.
