I've read somewhere recently that the value of the American dollar has dropped 42% against the Euro over the past 5-6 years. Little wonder our gas prices are pushing $4.00 per gallon.
So, lets keep writing about "incrementalism" and the need to be patient about people educating themselves before they are willing to change their ways. Let us accept low-density developments such the subdivision featured last week in the Ithaca Journal as being "Eco."
None of the rest of the world's populations is so addicted to sprawl, a self-created dependency on the automobile and oil as Americans are. As a result I expect that the rest of the world's economies will weather peak oil far better than America will.
As for us, we may well bequeath our childern and grandchildren status as the economic sick man of the world.
