BUILD A STRAW BALE STRUCTURE JUNE 7-8
Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tompkins County and the Ithaca
Children's Garden will offer a two-day interactive workshop on Straw
Bale Construction. Learn straw bale construction basics, foundation
systems, wall building, roof attachment and natural plastering
techniques through discussion, demonstrations and hands-on building.
Participants will help build a playhouse with local stone foundation,
straw bale and timber walls, natural plasters, and a living roof. The
structure's whimsical style and kid-sized scale will provide a unique
play space for children and visitors to the garden, while offering an
easily accessible public demonstration of natural building.
The Straw Bale Construction workshop will occur at the Ithaca Children's
Garden Sat., Jun. 7 from 10 am to 5 pm and continue Sun., Jun. 8 from 1
to 5 pm. Instructors are Aaron Dennis and ej George of Tugley Wood
Timberframing. This workshop is suitable for adults and older youth with
an accompanying adult. A fee of $150/adult (advance payment required)
helps support project costs. Space is limited. Food and beverages
provided. For more information or to register, call Cornell Cooperative
Extension of Tompksin County at 272-2292.
BUILD A LIVING ROOF
Members of the public are also invited to help build the playhouse
during a Living Roof Workshop on Jun. 21 and Volunteer Work Parties on
