demonstration/rally will be held at 2 PM on Sat., June 12, near the
corner of Fallsway and Madison St., near the Super Max prison. Even
while the state's machine of hate and death moves forward, it is very
important to stand up and say "NO ! NOT IN MY NAME!" contact the
governor and lieutenant governor to seek a commutation of the death
sentence for Steven Oken. Oken's horrible crimes cannot be excused, but
killing someone to show that killing is wrong is nonsensical. Gov.

Mosaic Communities: Integrated Housing Communities in Israel
Friday, June 11, 7:30 p.m.
Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington, VA 4444 Arlington Blvd
Twenty percent of Israel's population is Arab. Yet almost all schools
and communities are segregated, keeping Arab and Jewish citizens from
developing a common civic society. The goal of Mosaic Communities is to
establish integrated Arab/Jewish communities in Israel. Mosaic will
lease and purchase land, facilitate planning, development, and
construction of homes, as well as sell or lease the homes to residents.
Mosaic Communities is currently running a youth program in Ramle,
Israel, and is planning a residential cooperative and community outreach
center there. Ramle is one of the most impoverished locales in Israel
and it also has one of the poorest records of Arab/Jewish relations in
the country. Friday's presentation will include an update about Mosaic's
work as well as its Pennies for Peace Campaign. To learn more about
Mosaic Communities and the Pennies for Peace Program, go to

Demonstration on Ronald Reagan's Legacy
Friday, June 11th, 10:30 AM
Wisconsin Avenue in front of National Cathedral
The DC-Anti War Network (DAWN) is calling on members of the community to
remember Ronald Reagan's legacy on Friday, June 11, 10:30 AM on
Wisconsin and Massachusetts Avenues, outside of the National Cathedral.
DAWN encourages participants to bring signs that educate the profound
impact of Ronald Reagan on his times and on ours. Whether it be the
illegal arms for hostages scandal, the support of rightwing death squads
in El Salvador and Nicaragua, the invasion of Grenada, the busting of
the air traffic controllers' union, the massive nuclear arms buildup, or
the propping up of rightwing dictators in the Philippines and Chile, the
killing of innocent civilians in Lebanon, the environmental destruction,
and countless other acts, we call on people to bring signs that
articulate Reagan's impact on our world. The mass media has done a great
job of telling us about Reagan's sense of humor and some of his more
endearing personal characteristics. However, we believe that we should
also remember all that the man did of which the media has not reminded
us. At the same time, we also believe we should remember all those who
have died as a result of his life's actions. We ask that demonstrators
be as silent as possible, letting their signs and banners speak for
themselves. In the legacy of this particular man, there is much cause
for sorrowful reflection Ronald Reagan is dead, but his legacy lives on.
Let's draw attention to that legacy so that we can fight it now and in
the future. Later in the day, DAWN is calling on the community to fight
Reagan's legacy by joining in another march on Donald Rumsfeld's house.
That march will begin at 6 PM at Dupont Circle and will call once again
for Rumsfeld to resign from office immediately. For more information

Public Hearing on Affordable Housing
Thursday, June 10, 6:30 p.m.
441 Office of Zoning (Hearing Room) 4th Street, N.W., Suite 220-South
Judiciary Square Metro Case No. 00-27
Your support is needed in opposing a proposed zoning change for the
southern half of Square 37 in the West End. This neighborhood is
exploding with million-dollar condo construction projects, and we are
the last affordable housing in the neighborhood. At risk is our
building, 2 historic townhouses, and the West End Public Library. It is
David vs. Goliath, and we could use your help. There will be a public
hearing on the issue in front of the Zoning Commission. If anyone can
come and say a few words in support of rent control, affordable housing,
inclusionary zoning, etc., it would be much appreciated. Please let me
know if you need any further info. Thanks, Deborah Akel VP,

Wash the Flag Event in Washington, DC
Monday, June 14, 2004 (Flag Day) at 12:00 Noon
The Archives Plaza, Pennsylvania and 8th St, NW (Archives-Navy Memorial,
Green/Yellow Line)
The flag of the United States of America can stand for beautiful ideals
of truth, democracy, equality, freedom and justice for all.
Unfortunately, our nation has behaved in ways that soil the purity of
those ideals. The recent preemptive and unilateral invasion of Iraq is
the latest in a series of examples of how the people need to demand that
the government of the United States take a step back and reflect on what
real American values should be. Sponsored by an ad-hoc, interfaith,
multiracial committee of people for peace and justice. Join us for a
ceremony to scrub our flag of the stains of racism, classism,
militarism, imperialism, injustice, oppression and other historic and
current day evils so to hold up the hope of a new United States based on
real American values and ideals. 13 speakers will each briefly address
one of the stains we have on our flag. They will each wash one of the
stripes, and speak about what the flag truly should stand for. The
following is a current list of the 2004 Wash the Flag speakers: Ray
McGovern -- Former CIA Analyst; SLS [Deception]. Senator Mike Gravel --
Former US Senate [Blind Patriotism] Marie Dennis -- Pax Christi
[Classism] Shaker Elsayed -- Muslim American Society [Imperialism) John

Support for Sibel Edmonds
Monday, June 14, 10:00 AM
District Court for the District of Columbia,
Your Support Is Needed!! For over two years Attorney General John
Ashcroft has been relentlessly engaged in covering up my reports and
investigations into my allegations. He has asserted the rarely invoked
State Secret Privilege in my court proceedings, and has used it to quash
a subpoena request for my deposition from attorneys representing 9/11
family members on information regarding 9/11. On Monday, June 14, 2004,
at 10:00 AM, Judge Reggie Walton is expected to issue his ruling on the
state secret privilege assertion by AG Ashcroft, which is intended to
gag me. The hearing will be held in US District Court for the District
of Columbia, located at 3rd and Constitution Avenue, NW, Washington, DC,
Judge Walton's courtroom. Please attend if you can, since by your
presence both the court and Ashcroft will understand that this attempt
to cover up will not go unnoticed. I will be there, in front of the
Court's Constitution Avenue entrance, at 9:30 AM, and will be joined by
Daniel Ellsberg to make press statements and to meet with all of you.
Hope to see you there, Sibel D. Edmonds DC Court with map

Forr more information

Thanks, Deborah Akel VP,
Tiverton/Square 37 Tenants' Association, Inc. 202/659-9259

Sponsered by an ad-hoc, interfaith,
multiracial committee of people for peace and justice.
Capozzi -- No Taxation Without Representation [Hypocrisy] Kathy
Guillaume -- Jubilee Housing [Racism] Paul Magno -- Catholic Worker
[Arrogance] Rosa Lozano -- EPICA [Environmental Injustice] Paul Pumphrey
-- Brothers & Sisters International [Corporate Greed] Ellen Thomas --
Prop1 Anti Nuclear Campaign [Criminal Injustice] Fred Edwards -- Body
Smith [Consumerism] Charles Lechner -- Jews for Peace in Palestine and
Israel [Militarism/Occupation] Rebecca West -- Plymouth Congregational
Church [Sexism] Steve Jones of the Labor Heritage Foundation will be our
musical guest! Special Thanks to Pat Elder who will be our MC. Bring
your own US flag to scrub in the washtubs provided -- lots of fun for
