** Friday, October 26 ** RECOVERING FROM RACISM ** IVAW Co-Chair Adam Kokesh speaks at GWU **
7pm-9pm GWU Marvin Center, Room 405 (21st and H St. NW)
As a member of both Iraq Veterans Against the War and the GWU Campus Anti-War Network, Adam Kokesh got in hot water earlier this month for his role in a flyer scandal on campus. Those who read the flyer in its entirety recognized it for clever satire, sending up the Islamo-phobic racism inherent in the "Islamo-Fascism Awareness" week (scheduled this week by neo-right-wing mouthpiece David Horowitz). But the group bringing Horowitz to GW took offense, as did the administration, and the fallout continues to threaten both his tenure as a student at GW and as co-chair of IVAW. Kokesh remains one of the clearest and most corageous anti-war voices in the movement, and on Friday you can hear him for yourself.
(And if you're dying to see what Horowitz has to say about the supposed threat of Islamo-Fascism--or call him out for his fallacies--he's speaking in the same room in the Marvin Center on Thursday, Oct. 25, at 7:30pm.)

Short News Items:
Start Loving is still fasting for peace, after fasting for over 100 days in front of the Sudan Embassy last spring and summer to bring attention to the plight of Darfur. Start (formerly Jay McGinley) is now in day 25 of a fast in front of the Cannon House Office Building. Start is vigiling and fasting to prevent the US from attacking Iran, and to hasten our exit from Iraq. If you want to learn more about Start Loving you can check his blog at his website: http://startlovingusforcesiraniraq.blogspot.com/ He is willing to accept your support--you may contact him directly or through the Washington Peace Center.
** NO WAR! NO WARMING! ** Tremendous credit to the dedicated activists, mostly youth (but including some more experienced hands like Ted Glick, now in day 50 of his own fast for peace, environmental justice and sanity), who were involved in the No War! No Warming! demonstrations on Monday, October 22, 2007. Over 60 people were arrested demonstrating their commitment to peace and climate justice, prevailing upon Congress to use its power with wisdom and confidence to stop the war and channel our national resources to addressing the real crisis: Global Climate Change. For more information about No War! No Warming! visit the website at http://www.nowarnowarming.org/.
Thank you for everything you do for peace.
