Dear Sarah,
I would like to request that an item be added to the
agenda about our EM communication and the LSB list.
You have all een the EM's back and forth about the
role of this list and the necessity for it being
public or private.
Since it should be resolved and clarified at this
meeting, we need an item whicjh probably needs 10
minutes.

If need be I am ready to open the discussion and talk
for 1 minute giving the reasons for keeping it public.
 I do not find to hav a long discussion on EM. Let's
have it quickly at the meeting and vote to keep it
public or not.

1. There IS NOT OTHER public record of the LSB online
as of this moment. If that changes, and a website gets
created, the LSB can move to change things.
2. Most members of the LSB do not want to receive
hi-volume email of members' unfettered pontificating
about the issues. Leave that to committee level
communications, which have already started to evolve
using Yahoo Groups, etc.
3. Transparency takes work, it takes lots of energy on
behalf of any group with a public constituency. The
current listserv does that work for us. Why waste it?
4. The secretary's job is enormous, and this list
should remain a tool for her to keep the record
straight, as well.
I can bring cc's of this and possibly a motion to the
meeting so that members can lok at them and discuss
them.

A second point I would like to make is to move the
public comment to the front of the list as early as
possible. It seems to be listed too far down the
list.

In solidarity,
Simin Royanian
