Hi Ron --
The late Pablo Neruda's one hundredth birthday is July 12. Are we
doing any special programming for the occasion?
Neruda was Chilean, but he wrote about all the Americas. He has been
called the Homer of the twentieth century.
Several members of Poets Against the War, in which I'm involved, read
Neruda in both Spanish and English. One who could easily pull together
a reading is Rei Berroa, a professor of Spanish at George Mason U. His
e-mail is rberroa at gmu.edu.
Also, the Brazilian singer Luciana Souza has a wonderful new album out
of songs based on Neruda.
I expect to be out of town on July 12 (and next week as well).
Peace,
Dan
